108 civilians killed and injured by Houthi mines in 2024
The Monitoring Foundation for Rights, Freedoms and Sustainable Development ( RFSD ) announced that it had documented 108 cases of killing and injuring civilians in Al Hudaydah Governorate (western Yemen) as a result of mine incidents planted by the terrorist Houthi militia and explosive devices during the year 2024.
The foundation reported in a report published by its chairman, human rights activist Mujahid Al-Qab, that 108 victims fell as a result of these mines and explosives, distributed between 39 deaths (21 men, 14 children, 4 women) and 69 injuries (38 men, 24 children, 7 women).
The report indicated that mine and explosive accidents caused permanent or partial disabilities to 16 men, 11 children and two women during the period.
These numbers are 16 more than the statistics documented by the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), which indicate that 92 civilians were killed and injured during the past year.
Hodeidah is one of the Yemeni governorates most contaminated with mines planted by the terrorist Houthi militia and explosives left over from the war, as a result of the violent fighting over the past years and the ongoing conflict on the front lines south of the governorate.
