F-35 in Qatar Means Unstable Middle Eeast
Qatar has submitted a formal request to the United States to buy stealthy F-35 fighter jets, three people familiar with the deal said, in a deal that if pursued could raise tensions in the middle east.
Israel would oppose any US sale of advanced F-35 warplanes to Qatar, Israel’s intelligence minister Eli Cohen said. The Israeli Intelligence Minister made the comments in response to a Reuters report that Qatar - whose Iran links trouble Israel - had submitted a formal request to Washington to buy the Lockheed Martin Corp stealth jet.
Qatar’s F-35 request follows an August deal in which Washington agreed to consider giving the United Arab Emirates approval to buy the jets in a side deal to a US-brokered agreement normalizing ties between Israel and that Gulf power.
Analyst say that the UAE and Israel have a common concern of Qatar’s intentions since Qatar and Iran have a history of destabilizing the region .They explain that Qatar opposes the recent peace agreements between UAE Bahrain.
F-35 in Qatar means advanced weapons in the wrong hands which leads to an unstable Middle East, the analysts concluded.
