SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties considered the drone attack launched by the terrorist Houthi militia on a popular market in Taiz Governorate yesterday, Sunday, which led to the killing and wounding of 14 civilians, as part of systematic attacks by the militia against civilians.
The Geneva-based organization said, "Yesterday, Sunday, December 1, the Houthi group targeted a popular market adjacent to Umm Al-Qura School in the Al-Bumiyah area in the Maqbanah district, west of Taiz, with a drone, which led to the killing of 6 civilians and the injury of 8 others, some of whom are in critical condition."
SAM stated that it had viewed a video clip circulating on social media platforms, in which eyewitnesses confirmed that a drone came from the direction of Houthi-controlled areas and dropped a bomb on the densely populated area, denying any presence of military points in the targeted area.
The organization stressed that "such violations are not an isolated incident, but rather part of a continuing pattern of attacks launched by the Houthis, leading to more civilian casualties, including children and women."
SAM expressed its strong condemnation of this crime, calling on the Houthi group to stop its brutal behavior and random attacks that lead to the killing and wounding of innocent people, stressing that the continuation of these violations constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws, including the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit targeting civilians.
The organization called on the international community to establish effective mechanisms to monitor and observe violations, and to take serious action to hold accountable the perpetrators of these crimes, in addition to exerting pressure on the Houthis to stop these brutal operations, warning that the continued escalation in the conflict only leads to the aggravation of the humanitarian situation and increases the suffering of Yemenis who are already suffering from multiple crises.
