28 killed in militant clashes in Iran's southeast
A deadly clash erupted in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan late Wednesday night, resulting in the loss of at least 28 lives, reported the official news agency IRNA.
The violence erupted as members of the militant group Jaish al-Zulm launched a coordinated attack on military and police facilities across the region. According to the report, the assault targeted a military post belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Rask County, along with an IRGC headquarters and a coastguard police station in Chabahar County.
The confrontation claimed the lives of 18 militants and 10 security personnel, according to the IRNA, adding that the clashes had ended and order had been restored in the affected areas. IRGC Ground Force Commander Mohammad Pakpour revealed that the assailants had used explosive vests.
Jaish al-Zulm, designated as a terrorist organization by Iran, has been implicated in previous attacks targeting Iranian security forces and civilians. The group's actions have fueled tensions in the region and posed a significant challenge to Iran's security efforts.
