Houthi militia raises fuel prices by 27%
The Houthi radical rebel militia has imposed a new increase in the price of fuel, a second increase in three months since the last severe oil crisis.
The Houthi militia usually over-charge their subjects for fuel. Now under the pretext of Russia-Ukraine war, Yemen's Oil Company director, Ammar al-Adai, took the step which triggered public anger.
The militia, through the Yemen Oil Company in Sana'a, set the price of 20 liters of oil at YR 12,600 ($23) from YR 9,900 ($18), an increase of 2,700 riyals ($5) per gallon.
"Due to the positive change in exchange rates, the cost will be reviewed every 10 days," al-Adai said.
On March 10, the militia raised the price at gas cylinders to YR 16,000 for 20 liters gallon from YR 11,200, an increase of YR 4,200.
