G7: Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon... We affirm our support for Israel

G7 statement on the Iran-Israel conflict: We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself and affirm our support for Israel's security... We also affirm the importance of protecting civilians

G7 leaders called on Tuesday for regional "de-escalation" in the Middle East. In a statement, the group affirmed that "Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon," stressing that Israel has the "right to defend itself," and reaffirming the group's support for Israel.

The G7, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, said in its statement on the Iran-Israel conflict: "We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself and affirm our support for Israel's security," adding: "We also affirm the importance of protecting civilians."

The G7 leaders said in the statement: "We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself. We have clearly affirmed that Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon." They added, "We emphasize that resolving the Iranian crisis must lead to de-escalation in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza."

The air war between Iran and Israel, which began on Friday with Israeli airstrikes on Iran, has raised concerns in a region already tense since the start of the Israeli military offensive on Gaza in October 2023. US President Donald Trump urged everyone to evacuate the Iranian capital, Tehran, immediately, and reiterated that Iran should have signed a nuclear agreement with the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, he wrote in capital letters: "Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I've said it many times! Everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately!" Trump considered it unfortunate that "human lives are being wasted." He also emphasized that America First means great things, including that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon.

Trump also pinned the post as a main post on his personal page, apparently indicating the seriousness of the matter. Shortly afterward, Trump told reporters that he would soon return to Washington from the G7 summit in Canada due to the situation in the Middle East, where the conflict between Iran and Israel is escalating.

He continued, "I have to return as soon as possible for obvious reasons," stressing that the matter is extremely important. Meanwhile, the White House announced that Trump would return to Washington tonight to discuss several important issues.
