Trump stated that an agreement with Tehran is close and "may surprise some."
CNN: Agreement between Washington and Tehran in the Negotiations Round
CNN reported, citing sources it described as White House officials and people familiar with the negotiations between Tehran and Washington, that a preliminary nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States is imminent and is expected to be signed in the next round of talks, "likely to be held in a Middle Eastern country," according to the network.
According to the report, the next round will witness an official announcement of a preliminary agreement between Tehran and the administration of US President Donald Trump, which includes key points of understanding, including "the possibility of US investment in Iran's nuclear programs." Subsequent meetings are planned to discuss the technical details of the agreement.
The network added that the Iranian and US delegations have so far held five rounds of negotiations in Muscat and Rome, under the auspices of the Sultanate of Oman, which is mediating between the two sides. The location of the sixth round has not yet been determined.
Trump stated on Wednesday that an agreement with Tehran was imminent, noting that this "may surprise some." CNN reported that the anticipated agreement may also include the presence of US inspectors at Iranian nuclear facilities, a development that would enhance transparency regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
Although this agreement is still in its preliminary stages and has not yet been signed, the current moves are a clear indication of a significant change in the tense relations between Tehran and Washington over the past months.
For his part, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said on Wednesday that the negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran's nuclear program "have not yet been concluded," but he described the continuation of the negotiations as a good sign. Grossi said he is holding almost daily talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and is also speaking with Steve Witkoff, the US envoy to the Middle East.
