NISA chief destroys Somalia

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo may be president, but perhaps the most powerful man in Somalia is Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir, the head of the country’s National Intelligence and Security Agency.

Somalia’s intelligence chief who maintains links with militant groups cause unease across the region. Since assuming the position, Yasin initiated the disintegration of the spy agency, considering it a unit that could expose his close relationship with Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo lost popular legitimacy against the backdrop of repeated corruption scandals and general mismanagement.

Fahad Yasin, a trusted ally of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo continues to support the president's efforts to reconsolidate the type of dictatorship that led Somalia into collapse three decades ago.

Opposition is calling for the resignation of the intelligence chief Fahad Yasin for election interference. They accuse the spy agency director of mischief, creating divisions among the political class in Mogadishu and supporting Farmaajo's efforts of delaying the country's legislative elections to aid his re-election.

NISA leadership has made a habit of meddling in politics, restricting the activities of the press & politicians alike and interfering with political meetings.

The Somali Spy agency raises storm over links with Al-Shabaab, helping the militants with intelligence and even coordinating attacks against opposition figures.

The spy agency has become a mouthpiece of Al-Shabaab, critics argue, in yet a move which could destabilize national security, with claims of infiltration also raising concerns from among those within government and the opposition.
