Huawei Launches Wide Foldable Pura X Max, Beating Apple and Samsung
Huawei has unveiled the Pura X Max, its latest foldable phone, relying on this innovative design to expand its product lineup and counter growing competition from Apple in China. The Pura X Max unfolds horizontally to become a tablet-sized screen and is priced at 10,999 yuan ($1,610).
The phone features a relatively small 5.4-inch external display, which expands to a 7.7-inch screen when unfolded, according to a Bloomberg report. The Max model, specifically designed for its wide internal display, is the latest addition to Huawei's foldable phone portfolio, which also includes a tri-fold phone.

The Pura X Max
With this launch, Huawei will beat Apple and Samsung, both of which are expected to release wide-angle foldable phones later this year, intensifying the competition in this new phone category. Local competitors like Xiaomi and Oppo are also developing and manufacturing foldable phones targeting high-income consumers.
Phone Specifications
The Pura X Max abandons the usual elongated foldable design, focusing instead on a wider, more leaf-like aspect ratio. Both the internal and external displays follow a 2:1 aspect ratio, which Huawei says aims to provide a more consistent viewing experience across both screens. The external and internal displays support an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz using LTPO technology.
The phone features a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, a second-generation color sensor, and a 12.5MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Huawei has named this system XMAGE, which supports enhanced portrait photography and dynamic 3D images. The device is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro processor and runs on HarmonyOS.
Huawei has used a new hinge in the phone called Basalt Waterdrop, which is said to increase the screen area by 16% and improve drop resistance by 33%. The inner screen is protected by a multi-layered structure that includes UTG glass and additional support layers.
AI and Photography
As with most recent releases, artificial intelligence plays a key role in Huawei’s new phone. The Pura X Max runs HarmonyOS 6.1 and offers an enhanced version of the Xiaoyi smart assistant with what Huawei calls a “companion AI system.”
This system integrates with apps like Amap, Zhihu, Didi, Baidu Maps, and DingTalk, aiming to make the assistant more useful for everyday tasks. There is also a wide range of AI features, including Xiaoyi Help, Time Machine, and note-taking. With artificial intelligence and photo editing tools.
Phone Price
The phone is available in five colors: Midnight Black, Pure White, Cosmic Blue, Olive Gold, and Vibrant Orange. There are also some accessories and add-ons. Huawei has introduced the M-Pen 3 Mini, which supports air gestures, has a microphone, and can activate the Xiaoyi assistant.
The phone will be available in two versions: the standard version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage for 10,999 yuan, and another version with the same RAM but 512GB of storage for 11,999 yuan.
