5 Habits for Happiness: 90 Years of Experience and Wisdom

Sometimes, one asks oneself questions like, "Am I living a good life?" or "What will I be able to smile about from the bottom of my heart when my time is near?" These are difficult questions, but according to a report published by Marc & Angel, one can glean wisdom and experience from people who have lived for over 90 years.

True happiness throughout life can be enjoyed by following these tips:

1. Control Negative Self-Criticism

One of Walt Disney's famous quotes states that a person "should not look back too long, but keep moving forward, opening new doors and taking new experiences, because curiosity leads to new paths."

This quote can be interpreted as meaning that one should not evaluate one's actions or compare them to the actions of others, or worry about how others might evaluate them, as there is no point in doing so. Instead, a person's primary duty is to be creative, authentic, and do their best every day. It's important not to let self-criticism deter them from doing what they love and sharing their unique creative talents with the world.

2. Doing Difficult Things Constantly

Most people give up on their dreams too early. They graduate from school or university eager to change the world, build a business, make a lot of money, start a family, and live happily ever after. But when they embark on these journeys, they discover it's much harder than they anticipated.

They face numerous challenges. They experience setbacks, and they see nothing beyond the horizon. They wonder if their efforts are yielding any progress. As Winston Churchill famously said, "Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm." Success comes with difficulty, and true strength lies in persevering, no matter how hard things get.

3. Focusing on the Present

The best thing one can do in life is to make the most of the present moment, because no one knows what the future holds. Therefore, one should strive, work hard, and seek adventure, but must do so while being fully present and focused on the present moment.

4. Peace of Mind in Letting Go of Expectations

Letting go doesn't mean being able to forget the past; it means having the wisdom to embrace the present. "Every difficult situation in life can be a cause for despair or an opportunity for growth, depending on what one chooses to do with it now." Therefore, one should let go of thoughts, outcomes, and expectations that don't serve. While holding on to things is courageous, letting go and moving on often makes one stronger and happier in the end.

5. Continuously Learning and Sharing Knowledge

The late American philosopher and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, in essence, that "the purpose of life is to be happy, useful, honorable, and compassionate; to have a positive impact; and to live a dignified life."

There are remarkable people in the world who invest in themselves and then use what they have learned to make the world a better place than when they found it, in ways both small and large. Some succeed, others fail, and most achieve varying results, but the effort itself is the true achievement.

Persistence and continuous learning are essential, as is investing in oneself and connecting with others, including those who disagree. Asking questions and actively listening are crucial. It's not enough to simply acquire knowledge; one must contribute to good and use what one learns to create positive change.
