An Egyptian song is trending after appearing in an American TV series.
The popular Egyptian song "Satlana" has returned to the top of search engines after three years since its release, but this time with a big surprise. Hani Mahrous revealed details of the agreement with the Egyptian producer.
The audience was surprised to learn that the song was used in the eighth season of the American comedy series "Malcolm in the Middle." The show's stars appeared in the fourth episode dancing to the song, sparking controversy.
Some went so far as to claim that the creators of "Malcolm in the Middle" had stolen the copyright to the song, which was originally performed by several popular Egyptian singers, including Abdel Basset Hamouda, Mahmoud El Leithy, Hamdi Batshan, and Hassan El Kholaei, in the film "Baad El Shar" starring Ali Rabee. However, a response came quickly from one of the song's creators.

Purchasing the Rights to Use It
Egyptian sound engineer Hani Mahrous confirmed in press statements that the production company of the American series did not infringe on the intellectual property rights to the song. He added that the producers of the American series had been in contact for some time with Egyptian producer Mohamed Mohsen Gaber, who owns all the rights to the song "Satlana," and purchased the rights to use it within the series. The agreement stipulated that the song would only be played at the end of the fourth episode and not in any other scenes, which is what actually happened.
The Song "Satlana"
Mahrous continued, saying that featuring the song "Satlana" within an American series is a very positive development, as it has brought joy to the song's creators and could potentially open up a market for Egyptian songs in international cinema and drama.
It's worth noting that the song "Sattlana" features lyrics by Mustafa Hassan, music by Karim Ashour, arrangement by Amadeo, sound engineering by Hani Mahrous, and vocals by Mahmoud El Leithy, Abdel Basset Hamouda, Ahmed Batshan, and Hassan El Kholaei. It was featured in the film "Sattlana" starring Ali Rabee, which was released in Egyptian cinemas in 2023.
