WhatsApp Launches New Feature to Protect Accounts from Fraud with One Tap

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will make protecting accounts from hacking and fraud easier than ever, through a unified security setting that can be activated with just one tap.

The latest WhatsApp beta for Android includes references to a new feature called “Strict account settings,” designed for users who believe they are vulnerable to cyberattacks or phishing attempts, according to a report by WABetaInfo.

Comprehensive Protection at the Tap of a Button

When the feature is activated, WhatsApp will automatically:

- Block photos and files sent from unknown numbers.

- Disable link previews.

- Mute calls from unknown contacts.

- Restrict group invitations to only people in your contact list.

- Enable two-step verification.

- Protecting your IP address during calls.

- Alerting the user if a contact's security code changes in encrypted chats.

Why is this feature important?

This new feature offers a quick way to activate all privacy settings at once, reducing the likelihood of users making mistakes or forgetting important security options. It will also benefit less tech-savvy users who find navigating WhatsApp's complex settings difficult. The feature is still under development and has not yet reached beta testers; it is expected to undergo some modifications before its official release in a future update.
