A Chinese woman miraculously survived after falling into an abandoned well. She clung to the wall for 54 hours, battling exhaustion, mosquito bites, and even a bite from a water snake.

The incident occurred on September 13, when the 48-year-old woman, surnamed Chen, was hiking in a forest in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, southeast China, when she suddenly fell into a deep well. Her family quickly discovered her missing, and after an initial search failed, they reported her missing on September 14. The next morning, her son contacted an emergency rescue center for help.

A team of ten rescuers equipped with a drone set out to search until, around 1:45 p.m., they picked up a faint cry for help. Following the sound, they found the well, which was covered with weeds. After removing the weeds, rescuers found Chen submerged in the water, her pale fingers clutching the cracks in the well wall with all their might.

She later recounted that she was able to stay afloat thanks to her swimming skills, grabbing onto a protruding stone in the wall. However, the narrow, wide-bottomed well prevented her from climbing out.

"I collapsed many times in the pitch darkness, teeming with mosquitoes and water snakes. I was bitten countless times by mosquitoes, and even bitten by a snake on my arm, fortunately not a poisonous one," she said.

She added, "I was about to give up many times, but then I thought about my 70-year-old mother, 80-year-old father, and my daughter, who had just started college. If I left them behind, what would have happened to them?" Immediately after her rescue, she was transferred to Jinjiang

City Hospital and then to Quanzhou First Hospital for treatment. Doctors diagnosed her with two broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung, as well as severe cuts and sores on her hands from holding onto the wall. Her condition is currently stable, and she is expected to recover after several days of observation.
