YouTube Profits Range from Half a Dollar to $6 or $7 per 1,000 Views
In recent years, social media platforms in Egypt have transformed into an open market for profit, with millions of daily users following the content of bloggers and video creators who showcase lavish lifestyles, luxury cars, and constant travel. This has raised questions about the source of this sudden wealth.
At the same time, security campaigns have resulted in the arrest of a number of famous bloggers following reports of violations of the law or exploitation of platforms to create indecent content. Questions are again being raised in Egypt about whether social media profits alone are sufficient to generate this obscene wealth.
Bloggers' Sources of Profit
Platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok rely on a revenue-sharing system based on ads and views. Some bloggers generate significant income from direct advertising and corporate sponsorships. The average earnings of a blogger can range from thousands to hundreds of thousands of pounds per month, depending on the number of followers and the quality of the content.
Engineer Mahmoud Idris, owner of an information security and digital asset management company, said that social media has largely replaced television and has become a source of income for many users. Profits depend on how each person makes money, such as through ads, views, and direct ads from people due to the bloggers' popularity. Each platform differs from the other; YouTube differs from TikTok and Facebook. YouTube profits range from half a dollar to $6 or $7 per thousand views, depending on the audience in different countries.
He pointed out that these figures vary greatly depending on the target audience and the quality of the content, taking into account that a large number of channels do not generate any profits. Facebook and Instagram, on the other hand, offer strong profits through their partnership with Meta and the implementation of their own policies.
As for TikTok, the major platform that many bloggers have turned to, it relies on other methods, including live broadcasts and gifts from viewers. The lion gift on TikTok is one of the most expensive gifts, costing approximately $370. When sent during a live broadcast, the content creator receives between 50% and 80% of its value (after deducting TikTok's commission). The gift of a rose is a low-value gift, costing 22 Egyptian pounds. Clicking is the act of repeatedly clicking during a live broadcast to increase engagement.
He also explained that the wealth that some bloggers appear to possess doesn't always come from ads and views alone. Other sources contribute to this substantial income. Many influencers earn huge sums through direct advertising contracts with companies that exploit their fame to promote their products and services, or by promoting illegal apps for very large sums of money, reaching thousands of dollars, exploiting their fame to attract users.
He also emphasized that social media has become a place for significant money-making, with millions of pounds being earned, and this wealth is evident on bloggers. Many of them compete to be trending in order to make money.
There are specialized companies that attract bloggers seeking quick profits. These companies handle all aspects of content creation, from production and filming to marketing, with the goal of achieving trends and generating huge profits. In this case, displaying wealth is part of the marketing plan to attract more followers.
Engineer Shaker El Gammal, an information security officer at a private technology company, confirmed that social media profits in Egypt can reach millions of pounds. He pointed out that a large number of content creators rely on advertising revenue and online marketing for products in exchange for large sums of money, based on their popularity and number of followers on digital platforms.
El Gammal explained that relying on social media alone is not enough to achieve huge profits. Many bloggers resort to marketing their own products or participating in promotional campaigns for other products, which contributes to increased sales and additional financial returns.
The information security expert added that bloggers' profits from Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok are not entirely theirs; rather, a percentage of revenue is deducted by the management of these platforms, ranging from 30% to 50% of the total revenue. He also pointed out that there are specialized companies that work to support bloggers' fame and promote them in exchange for advertising specific products, which enhances their chances of achieving increased profits.
