Jimenez Pays Tribute to Diogo Jota in Gold Cup Final

Mexico striker Raúl Jiménez paid a touching tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota during the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Before the final match between Mexico and the United States, Jiménez entered the field wearing a shirt with the name "Diogo J (Jota)" on the back. When Jiménez scored Mexico's equalizer against the United States in the 27th minute, Jiménez sat down and celebrated in the Jota style, which involves playing with a video game controller.

Jiménez also placed a Mexico shirt, with Jota's name on the back, over his crossed legs, according to Fox Sports. Jiménez was a teammate of the Portuguese striker, who died in a car accident in Spain last week, for two seasons at Wolverhampton Wanderers when the club played in the English Premier League.

The Mexican national team overcame a 1-0 deficit against the United States to secure a precious and deserved 2-1 victory on Sunday evening local time in the final of the continental tournament, co-hosted by the United States and Canada.

The Mexican national team has maintained its unbeaten streak in its six matches as it seeks to extend its record as the most successful team in the tournament, which began in 1991, three titles ahead of its closest competitor, the United States. The Mexican national team has achieved five wins and one draw, scoring 10 goals and conceding three.
