After thwarting 20 Iranian plots to kill inside Britain.. A series of strict measures to confront the threat of Tehran

British Security Minister, Den Jarvis, announced that 20 Iranian plots to kill British citizens or residents in the United Kingdom were thwarted during the three years from 2022 to 2025, referring to a series of measures to confront the "growing threat" from the Tehran government.

According to a report by the Mirror newspaper, Jarvis, who also holds the position of Deputy Minister of Security at the British Home Office, said during a meeting in the British House of Commons on Tuesday that the government will take strict new legal measures against crimes committed by those who carry out the orders of the Iranian regime inside the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, a number of British members of parliament warned of the "growing threat" from Tehran in the United Kingdom. The British Security Minister explained that ways are currently being studied to apply anti-terrorism laws against the Iranian government as a whole, so that sanctions are imposed on the Iranian government and its intelligence services as they are imposed on terrorist groups.

The British official added that all British police personnel will be trained to confront the plans of hostile governments, so that they have the ability to deal with these threats.

Jarvis pointed out that "the Iranian government is becoming more bold by the day, and is aggressively implementing its goals on British soil in an attempt to weaken us. This aggression is clearly demonstrated by a significant increase in direct actions against British targets in recent years."

He also referred to the number of Iranian plots that have been thwarted in Britain, explaining that investigations related to government threats carried out by the British domestic intelligence service have increased by 48 percent last year. Jarvis stressed: "It is clear that these plots are part of a conscious strategy followed by the Iranian government to suppress criticism and opposition through intimidation and fear."

The British Security Minister added that the Iranian government targets Persian-language media, Jews and Israelis who operate in Britain and criticize the Iranian regime. Jarvis said that the British government intends to include the Iranian government, including the intelligence services and the Revolutionary Guards, in the advanced level of monitoring in the foreign interference registration plan.

The Foreign Interference Registration Scheme is a two-stage mechanism designed to strengthen the resilience of the UK political system against covert foreign interference and increase transparency around the activities of foreign powers and entities that pose a threat to national security.

Jarvis confirmed that the scheme will come into effect in the summer. Iran is the first foreign power to be included in the enhanced tier of the UK’s Foreign Interference Registration Scheme. Under the scheme, anyone based in the UK who works for Iran will have to declare this in accordance with the law, and if they fail to do so, they will face prosecution.

Jarvis warned that if individuals fail to comply with the law, they will face up to five years in prison. “These individuals have a choice: either declare their activities to the British government or go to prison,” he said.

He added that the British government is examining existing anti-terrorism laws to see if they can be extended to include foreign governments. Jarvis also noted that the UK’s National Crime Agency is monitoring individuals suspected of collaborating with the IRGC, including those involved in money laundering for the entity within the UK.

The UK security minister also welcomed the official investigations being conducted by the Charity Commission into the Islamic Centre of England and the Tawhid Charitable Foundation. According to the Mirror report, representatives of the British parliament announced that these measures are part of the government’s efforts to combat “individuals who promote Iranian interference in the UK.”
