Protests in western Iran and chants in Tehran against the regime, coinciding with power outages and the closure of 24 provinces


Protesting citizens in the city of Dehdasht in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, western Iran, gathered on Tuesday night-Wednesday for the third time in a row in the city's main square. In Tehran, citizens chanted slogans against the regime due to the power outage, while 24 provinces were closed "due to the cold and power outages".


According to videos and reports that reached the "Iran International" channel, protesters in Dehdasht chanted slogans such as: "Death to the dictator", "This year is the year of blood, Seyyed Ali is down", and "Death to the Islamic Republic".


According to available information, security forces and police arrested at least six people, including two women, from the protesters during this demonstration. In the demonstrations that took place on the previous two nights, at least four other protesters were arrested. Iran International has been able to verify the identities of five of the detainees: Atefeh Tahernia, Jaber Foroughi, Kamran Bouzarri, Amir Hossein Jafari, and Pouria Barati.


Power outage in Tehran and chants against the regime


At the same time, and coinciding with the power outage in Tehran, reports have been circulating about the continuation of night chants in various parts of the capital, since the afternoon of Tuesday, February 11, and citizens have published many reports about widespread power outages in Tehran.


Areas such as Narmak, Tehranpars, Pasdaran, Shahrak Gharb and parts of central Tehran were among the areas that witnessed this situation. The "Tavanir" Energy Company announced that the power plants in the capital were short of gas, and therefore the power was cut off in some areas without prior planning or announcement.


The country returns to a state of shutdown


Based on the data issued by the provinces until yesterday evening, Tuesday, it was announced that administrative and educational centers in 24 provinces would be closed today, Wednesday, February 12. Among all the provinces of the country, the provinces of Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Ahvaz, Ilam, Lorestan and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad will continue to operate normally on Wednesday, while government offices, banks, universities and schools in the rest of the provinces will be closed.


Based on the announcements published separately, schools and government offices in Tehran have been declared closed on Wednesday, including all administrative and judicial units, such as the court, the stock market and others. The Ministry of Education also announced that schools in the provinces that were closed due to the "severe cold" on Wednesday will not even operate online.
