Yemen's schools protest unpaid teachers
Educational sources said that a number of government schools in the interim capital, Aden (southern Yemen), launched a strike today, Wednesday, coinciding with the start of the first day of exams for transfer students, in protest against the non-payment of teachers’ salaries.
The sources added to "Yemeni Youth Net" that the striking teachers are demanding that the government pay their delayed salaries for the month of October, and that they be paid regularly without delay, in addition to the delayed bonuses and improving their salaries in line with the ongoing collapse of the Yemeni riyal.
The sources explained that the strike, which took place in a number of schools in the governorate, was accompanied by protests and chants denouncing the delay in paying salaries.
It is noteworthy that education employees have not received their October salaries yet, due to the government’s inability to pay salaries due to the financial distress the government is experiencing as a result of the halt in oil exports as a result of the Houthi attacks that targeted oil facilities two years ago.
