Yemen's Houthis use human shields in military locations

The Houthi terrorist group has been known to use human shields in Yemen at least since 2016.

Rights organizations have documented violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia and called for the protection of civilians.

According to the latest information, civilians are actually taken hostage by the Houthis who use them as a human shield in every possible way, including using civilians’ homes and hospitals as military barracks.

Earlier this month, Houthis had abducted and kept civilians, opponents and internally displaced persons at their military sites with the deliberate aim of avoiding attack and in violation of international humanitarian law that prohibits using civilians as human shields.

Human rights organizations have been expressing concern over the militia’s ongoing horrific crimes, thousands of schools were destroyed, children were forcibly recruited to join Houthi forces, schools and hospitals are being used as military barracks, and civilians continue to be terrorized.

The Yemeni government held Houthi militia accountable for using civilians as human shields and urged the Security Council to intervene to stop the humanitarian crimes carried out against innocent civilians, and the continuous destruction of hospitals and schools.

The Houthi militias do not believe in peace and co-existence because they are a militia that receives its guidance from Iran and is trying to change the identity of Yemen and extract it from its Arab surroundings
