Brotherhood terrorism designation bill introduced to Congress

The Biden administration is picking up where Barack Obama’s left off in disastrously embracing the Muslim Brotherhood and other Sharia-supremacists.

However, the moves taken by some representatives in Congress regarding placing the Muslim Brotherhood on the lists of terrorism represent a powerful tool of pressure on the current US administration, and will affect its policy in dealing with the organization.

American political analyst, Mac Sharqawi, believes that re-introduction of the project to classify the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization for the second time, pushes the importance of shedding light on the group’s activity and studying the criteria according to which organizations are classified on terrorist lists.

Sharqawi points out that the US administration has already classified a number of branches emanating from the Brotherhood on the lists of terrorism, including Hasm and Liwa al-Thawra, which is the military component of the Brotherhood.

There are many countries in which people close to the Brotherhood or members of it take power, including, for example, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the frozen Tunisian Parliament Speaker Rashid Ghannouchi, In addition to the countries that provide support to the organization, such as Britain, Sharqawi says

According to the American political analyst, designating the group as a terrorist organization “will place restrictions on the American administration and oblige it to impose sanctions on all its members,” referring to the role played by pressure groups from within the United States to disrupt the decision.

Sharqawi does not expect that the bill presented in Congress will succeed in classifying the group as a terrorist, but it will “represent a tool of pressure on the US administration to change its policy in dealing with the organization,” in addition to being a “step in the way of banning it.”

Cruz had criticized the way in which the Biden administration deals with the Brotherhood, saying that “the American people have the right to know if the administration is trying to pressure US allies to release the extremists from the Brotherhood.”

The bill presented by US Representative Ted Cruz, on placing the Muslim Brotherhood on the US terrorism lists, revived the controversy again in Washington about Biden’s policies in dealing with the organization.

There is hardly any justification for not designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and the administration’s refusal to do so amounts to providing aid and comfort to jihadists. America’s closest Arab allies, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have all designated the Muslim Brotherhood.
