Macron ran through the streets of Alexandria... and the cars of the presidential convoy drove behind them

French President Emmanuel Macron caught the attention as he was exercising in the morning in the streets of Alexandria Governorate, on the sidelines of his visit to Egypt. The tour coincided with the official visit made by the French President to the city of Alexandria, which includes official meetings and field tours in a number of landmarks and vital areas.

Social media pioneers circulated a video clip in which Macron, his wife Brigitte Macron, and his accompanying delegation appeared running in one of the crowded streets in Alexandria, while the cars of the presidential convoy drove behind them.

On Saturday evening, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi conducted a tour of the city of Alexandria, during which he accompanied Emmanuel Macron, in the presence of the heads of delegations of the countries participating in the opening of the new headquarters of Senghor University, along with Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Counselor Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic in Egypt, explained that the two presidents toured the tourist walkway on the Alexandria Corniche, reaching the private entrance to the historic Qaitbay Citadel, and listened to an explanation about the history of its establishment, as well as a detailed presentation regarding the underwater archaeological excavations for the remains of the Alexandria Lighthouse.

Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed, Chief Inspector of the General Administration of Sunken Antiquities at the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and Dr. Thomas Faucher, Head of the Alexandria Studies Center of the French Ministry of Scientific Research, also presented, where they reviewed the archaeological and historical treasures that had been excavated from various eras.

The official spokesman added that after the tour, President Sisi held a dinner in honor of the French President and the accompanying delegation, as well as the heads of delegations of the countries participating in the opening of the new headquarters of Senghor University. Al-Sisi renewed his welcome to Macron in Egypt, praising the progress witnessed in bilateral relations in various fields, and expressing his aspiration to continue strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, tourism, antiquities and the arts.

El-Shenawy explained in an official statement that the French President, for his part, expressed his deep appreciation for the visit to the city of Alexandria, which represents a global beacon of science and culture, in addition to being a pivotal center for cooperation between Mediterranean countries throughout the ages, stressing his country’s keenness to continue deepening cultural ties between the friendly Egyptian and French peoples, in order to enhance the existing strategic partnership between the two countries.
