Emirati champion Rashid Al Dhaheri achieved a significant milestone for motorsport in the UAE, securing first place in the second race of the opening round of the FIA-sanctioned European Regional Formula Championship, held yesterday at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. This victory makes him the first Emirati driver to win this category of single-seater racing internationally.
The races took place from April 24th to 26th in Spielberg, Styria, coinciding with the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). The event attracted over 100,000 spectators.
The Red Bull Ring, part of the Formula 1 World Championship calendar, is one of the world's premier circuits. Spanning 4.326 kilometers, it features 10 turns and a diverse track layout, offering a mix of straights and braking zones, which enhances overtaking and competitive opportunities.
The round saw the participation of 30 drivers from over 20 nationalities. Al Dhaheri, a member of the Mercedes Formula 1 Junior Programme, delivered an outstanding performance in the regional Formula car, which features a carbon fiber chassis and a 270-horsepower engine.

Al Dhaheri competed in the round with his French team, driving a car bearing the colors of an Emirati team. He topped his group in qualifying and started the first race from second position, managing to finish second and secure a podium finish and valuable points.
In the second race, where he started from eleventh position under the reverse grid system, Al Dhaheri delivered a balanced performance, gradually climbing the ranks before clinching the lead in the final laps, capitalizing on his race management skills. He crossed the finish line in first place, achieving a historic victory. Program officials praised Al Dhaheri's performance, highlighting his exceptional overtaking and race management skills.
Al Dhaheri expressed his delight at this achievement, noting that teamwork was instrumental in securing the victory. In the third race, Al Dhaheri demonstrated a competitive spirit, climbing from fifteenth to fifth place and adding further points to his tally.

The championship continues at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands from May 21st to 24th, where Al Dhaheri aims to maintain his positive momentum.
