A Surprise About a Blonde Officer Who Appeared with Trump… and Gained Millions of Followers

In just four months, an Instagram account purportedly belonging to a blonde officer or soldier in the US Army, named Jessica Foster, amassed over a million followers. Photos of her walking on an airstrip alongside US President Donald Trump on the first day of the war with Iran circulated widely on social media.

Photos of the blonde woman in her military uniform alongside an F-22 Raptor fighter jet, or with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, also garnered thousands of likes.

Just a Hoax

But the surprise came when it was revealed that Foster was a hoax, a fake woman created using artificial intelligence. There is no public record of her military service, and the account, despite not being labeled as AI-generated, is full of indicators confirming that it is not real. In this context, Sam Gregory, executive director of Witness, an organization that analyzes deepfake videos, explained that Foster's case exemplifies the extent to which modern artificial intelligence tools can be used for deception, according to The Washington Post.

He also noted that "it has become much easier to create a consistent fake persona that appears in multiple photos and videos, placing it alongside real public figures, giving the impression that it is present at the heart of actual events."

He said that the creators of these fake personas hope that by politicizing them and linking them to current events, they can maximize their reach and stand out amidst the overwhelming amount of online content. He continued, "After attracting attention, they can, as in Foster's case, convert followers into paid platforms that require users to pay for more sensational content."

Gregory further explained that Foster's images have no source, no date, no background, and contain visual errors. He added, explaining, "There are countless beautiful women, real and fake, online, but having someone so close to power, at the heart of major events, gives her a different kind of appeal."

US Army Comment

A US Army spokesperson confirmed that authorities found no record of Foster. Instagram removed her account last Thursday for violating its policies, according to a Meta spokesperson.

Foster's first video was posted on Thanksgiving Day, showing the blue-eyed woman sitting under an American flag wearing a tight shirt. Since then, she has posted more than 50 photos and videos of Foster meeting with First Lady Melania Trump, the Ukrainian president, the Russian president, and soccer star Lionel Messi.

Several accounts have recently emerged featuring AI-generated women pretending to be pro-Trump soldiers, truck drivers, or police officers, successfully building a large following on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X. A similar model of this strategy has recently emerged outside the United States as well, with hundreds of AI-generated videos circulating showing Iranian female soldiers and pilots cheering on the Iranian military, as reported by the BBC.
