Two players from the Iranian women's national football team joined a training session with a professional club in Brisbane, Australia, marking their first public appearance since being granted asylum in Australia. The players, Fatemeh Pasandeh and Atefeh Ramezani Zadeh, appeared smiling and wearing the club's colors alongside the elite women's team in photos posted by Brisbane Roar on Instagram on Monday.

This update came as the rest of the Iranian women's football delegation left Malaysia for Oman, seemingly concluding a turbulent chapter that saw the Australian government offer humanitarian visas to most of the Iranian players after their elimination from the AFC Women's Asian Cup. Seven players initially accepted the asylum offer, but five later changed their minds and announced their return to Iran.

Brisbane Roar, who play in the Australian Women's A-League, posted a welcome message to the two Iranian players, Fatemeh and Atefeh, on their Instagram account.

"We are committed to providing them with a supportive environment in the coming stages," wrote club CEO Kaz Batafta. The players commented on the post, with Ramazani Zadeh writing, "Thank you for everything." The club declined to comment further and referred all inquiries to the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Last week, the club had offered the players, in a statement on social media, "a place to train, play, and feel a sense of belonging." Officials reported that the two women were taken to an undisclosed safe location and are receiving assistance from the government.

Neither player has made any statements, but Basandide posted a photo on Instagram on Monday of herself with Jill Ellis, FIFA's head of football, with the caption: "Everything will be alright."
