Meta is preparing to combat scammers across its platforms, launching new AI tools and partnerships with law enforcement to enhance protection on Facebook and Messenger. The goal is to make scams harder for fraudsters and easier for users to avoid losses.

Messenger's fraud detection tools have been expanded to include more countries and are now better at recognizing signs of suspicious messages. When unwanted messages, such as dubious job offers, are present, the app will suggest an AI-powered investigation of the conversation. If a scam attempt is identified, you will receive guidance on warning signs, as well as... Options to block or report an account.
In advertising, Meta is expanding its advertiser verification program, aiming to have 90% of its ad revenue come from trusted advertisers by the end of 2026, up from 70% currently, significantly reducing opportunities for ad fraud.
Fighting scammers at the source
In addition to tools, Meta collaborates with law enforcement to shut down scams globally. In a joint operation with the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Thai police, more than 150,000 accounts linked to scam hubs were disabled, resulting in 21 arrests.
The company also removed more than 159 million fraudulent ads last year, with 92% removed before any user reported them. It shut down 10.9 million Facebook and Instagram accounts linked to criminal scam hubs.
What does this mean for you?
With scammers increasingly using artificial intelligence to persuade, this extra layer of protection in apps used by billions of people offers a real opportunity to reduce the risk of being scammed on Facebook. And "Messenger." The tools won't protect you from all scams, but they significantly increase your chances of digital safety.
