Lamine Yamal: I scored the hat-trick while fasting
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who scored his first career hat-trick against Villarreal on Saturday, explained that he was hungry due to fasting but that it didn't affect him.
Yamal scored his first hat-trick at the age of 18 years and 230 days, a year before Lionel Messi's hat-trick, thus breaking a new record to become the youngest player to score a hat-trick in La Liga in the 21st century, according to Opta.
Speaking after the 4-1 victory over Villarreal, when asked about his hunger due to fasting, he said: "I'm hungry, but I feel fine, and we proved all of that at Camp Nou."
He added: "I'm happy with the team's win, and very happy with the result. As for the goal, the important thing was to stay calm. When I have the ball, I make the decisions, and I went towards my defenders. I had to score."
People want me to score 100 goals at 16. I'd love to, but it's very difficult. For a week, I didn't feel any discomfort from the groin pain. I wasn't comfortable, I wasn't happy, it was a mix of many things. For a week, I've been happy to play, I'm smiling again.
