The Premier League will allow a break during Ramadan matches.

British media reports indicate that the Premier League and the English Football League will allow Muslim players to break their fast during Ramadan.

The BBC reported that, as in previous years, team captains and referees will find a suitable break during the match for Muslim players or officials to break their fast. The report added that teams and referees will discuss beforehand whether a break is necessary, and an approximate time will be agreed upon. This break will not be used for drinking water or as a tactical timeout.

Play will not be stopped during the action, but rather at the earliest convenient time during a goal kick, free kick, or throw-in. An agreement was reached in 2021 allowing Muslim players to break their fast during Premier League matches.

The first such break occurred during a match between Leicester City and Crystal Palace in April 2021. The game was paused around the 30th minute for a goal kick, allowing Wesley Fofana and Cheikhou Kouyaté, then playing for Leicester and Crystal Palace respectively, to consume fluids and energy drinks.

Among the Muslim players in the Premier League are Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Arsenal's William Saliba, Manchester City's Omar Marmoush and Rayan Aït-Nouri, Manchester United's Imad Diallo, and others. In 2022, former Liverpool player Sadio Mané revealed that the club had adjusted its training schedule to support its Muslim players during Ramadan.
