Benzema's debut.. A win and a consistent contribution
French striker Karim Benzema has made a habit of contributing in his debut for his new team before making another appearance in Al-Hilal's colors on Thursday in the 21st round of the Saudi Professional League against Al-Akhdoud.
Benzema will be available for Italian coach Simone Inzaghi as the team looks to return to winning ways after three consecutive draws against Al-Riyadh, Al-Qadisiyah, and Al-Ahli. The gap between league leaders Al-Hilal and fourth-placed Al-Qadisiyah is now four points.
The former French international joined Al-Hilal in a high-profile transfer from Al-Ittihad on the final day of the winter transfer window. Al-Hilal becomes the fourth club Benzema has played for, following Olympique Lyonnais (2004-2008), Real Madrid (2008-2023), and Al-Ittihad (2023-2026).
During his debut with Lyon in the 2005-2006 season, at the age of 17, Benzema played 12 minutes in the 21st round of Ligue 1, contributing an assist for his team's second goal in a 2-0 victory over Metz.
With Real Madrid in the first round of the 2009-2010 season, the capital club defeated Deportivo La Coruña 3-2, with the then 21-year-old assisting his Spanish teammate Raúl's goal. At the start of the 2023-2024 season, Al-Ittihad Jeddah defeated Al-Raed 3-0, with Benzema providing the assist for Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah's goal.
