Alibaba Founder's Wife Buys Luxury London Home for £19.5 Million
Records from the British Land Office show that the wife of Alibaba founder and billionaire Jack Ma purchased a house in London's Belgravia district for £19.5 million late last year.
This property is the latest addition to the family's extensive real estate portfolio, which has expanded significantly outside of China in recent years, following Jack Ma's withdrawal from public life after strained relations with Chinese authorities.
The house was originally the Italian Embassy in the 1920s before being renovated and transformed into a luxurious townhouse with a private cinema, elevator, and six bedrooms.
The house spans approximately 8,000 square feet, making the price per square foot close to £2,500. Despite these high prices, the transaction ranked 34th on the list of the most expensive real estate deals in London last year.
According to data from LonRes, a platform specializing in monitoring the luxury real estate market in London, this deal is one of the most prominent deals of 2024, ranking 34th among the most expensive sales in the city, and ranking within the top 0.4% of real estate transactions concluded in the British capital during the past year.
