OpenAI announces new measures to protect teens

OpenAI has introduced new parental control tools for its ChatGPT chatbot, both on the web and mobile. The company stated in a post on the X platform that these tools allow parents and teens to choose to enhance protection measures by linking accounts.

Parents will be able to protect their children by reducing their exposure to sensitive content and controlling whether ChatGPT retains chat history and whether these conversations can be used to train OpenAI models. If systems and monitors detect a threat to their teen's safety, parents can access the necessary information to support their child's safety and be notified if accounts are unlinked. These measures come after two parents accused OpenAI of helping their son commit suicide.

Recently, after ChatGPT was linked to suicide and death cases, US lawmakers and parents increased pressure on the company to strengthen safety measures. The American company, founded in 2015, stated that ChatGPT has more than 700 million users and confirmed that it is working on developing an age prediction system to facilitate the implementation of security measures on teen accounts.
