A fire at one of London's airports causes major flight chaos

A major fire broke out in a terminal at Stansted Airport, located in the north of the British capital, London, causing significant chaos for incoming and outgoing flights. Authorities were forced to cancel some flights and delay others to deal with the blaze.

The fire, which broke out in one of the terminals on Wednesday morning, caused the cancellation of trains heading to Stansted Airport, disrupting the arrival of large numbers of passengers. The chaos later expanded to include some flights and affected traffic within the airport.

The British newspaper "Metro" reported on its website that departures from London's Stansted Airport were experiencing delays after a fire broke out in one of the departure halls. A signal failure caused chaos for passengers heading to the airport by train. The fire broke out in the departure hall at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Although the airport reported that the fire was quickly extinguished, it caused a large amount of smoke.

Passengers were evacuated "as a precaution" and were denied entry to the security screening area, which was closed for about three hours and reopened at 6 a.m. The latest update from Stansted Airport, published at 9:45 a.m., stated: "Following the fire earlier this morning in the departure hall, passengers are taking longer than usual to get through the airport."

The airport said rail services to London Stansted Airport were operating as normal this afternoon, but noted that "there may be some delays." The airport added: "Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airlines and allow extra time for their journeys if necessary. We thank all our passengers for their patience and understanding. We also thank our colleagues for their hard work and dedication this morning."
