The Next Phone: Samsung's Tri-Fold Phone Is a Real Laptop Replacement
New leaks have revealed that Samsung's upcoming tri-fold phone, reportedly called the "TriFold," will be a multitasking device that could potentially replace a laptop. New leaks of the phone's user interface reveal seamless transitions, with apps open on the outer display continuing to run smoothly when the device is fully opened, without sudden reboots.
In one of the leaked videos, Samsung's internet app works with the Galaxy AI, which occupies about a third of the entire display. The AI interface can also be separated into a separate floating window for a more flexible workflow, according to a report by the technology news website Android Police.
It appears that the floating windows are more than just a visual feature. During calls, the user interface shows the call interface becoming a floating layer while you continue with other tasks. The leaks reveal that the TriFold device could function more like a mini-computer than a smartphone.
Structurally, leaks indicate that the phone's design uses two hinges, and that the folding order may be important. One leaked animation suggests that the left panel of the phone should be folded before the right to avoid damage, possibly due to the asymmetry caused by the camera bump.
In some leaks, the center panel acts as an external display when the device is closed. The user interface appears to be ready to mirror the design of the main display on the cover and the internal displays to reduce confusion when opening the device and facilitate the transition to the larger display when unfolded.
Samsung is expected to announce the Trifold phone in late 2025, most likely in October or November. However, the company may still be considering a global launch. As for the price, leaks indicate it will be around $3,000, which is high, but perhaps in line with Samsung's ambitions for the phone.
