The hair transplantation industry has witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years, becoming one of the fastest-growing cosmetic medical sectors in the world. Official figures indicate that the global hair transplant market size reached approximately $11 billion, with expectations of reaching $49 billion in just nine years.

Last year, 4.3 million hair transplants were performed worldwide, including 1.5 million in Turkey alone, reflecting the sector's advanced position in some global markets. Data indicates that 87 percent of hair transplants are performed by men, compared to 13 percent by women, while 43 percent of patients undergo more than one procedure to increase hair density.

Hair transplantation: Procedures that attract men and generate billions of dollars

The cost of hair transplantation varies significantly from country to country. The United States is the most expensive, with an average of $13,000, while Turkey is the least expensive, with an average of $3,000 per procedure. Despite the dominance of men in transplantation, the percentage of women seeking these procedures has seen significant growth over the past two years, reflecting a growing interest from both sexes in maintaining the appearance and health of their hair.

Apart from traditional methods, modern technologies have entered the field of hair transplantation to enhance accuracy and effectiveness. These include robotic transplantation and artificial intelligence to assist surgeons, in addition to the use of stem cells to stimulate scalp hair growth.

For his part, Dr. Amin Sharobim, a consultant in dermatology and cosmetic surgery at the National Research Center in Egypt, confirmed that demand for hair transplantation among women is witnessing a significant increase. He pointed out that the degree of baldness determines the success of the procedure, while the doctor's hourly fee remains the largest cost. Artificial intelligence has contributed to increasing the efficiency of these procedures.
