British Foreign Secretary Admits to Fishing with US Vice President Vance Without a License

The British Foreign Office announced that Foreign Secretary David Lammy has referred himself to the Environment Agency after going fishing in a carp pond with US Vice President JD Vance without a license.

Lammy, who failed to catch any fish during the fishing session at his country retreat in Chevening, Kent, southeast London, did not have the necessary license to catch freshwater fish such as carp. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "The Foreign Secretary has written to the Environment Agency regarding an administrative error that prevented the necessary licenses for fishing in a private lake as part of a diplomatic meeting at Chevening House last week." During the visit, Vance, who is on holiday with his family in the UK, said: "All my children have caught fish, but the Foreign Secretary has not."

The Foreign Office explained that the relevant licenses were purchased after Lammy was "informed" of the need to do so. The ministry noted that the minister "wrote to the Environment Agency to inform them of the error, explain how it could be corrected, and thank them for their efforts in protecting British fisheries."

Lammy now faces a £2,500 ($3,394) fine after admitting he did not have the required license. After spending a weekend at Chevening, Vance completed his holiday in the Cotswolds countryside in southwest England, where residents threw a "Vance Not Welcome" party to protest his visit and the increased security measures associated with it.
