US Judge Frank Caprio, the former Chief Justice of the Providence Court in Rhode Island and known as "The Compassionate Judge," passed away at the age of 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

 American media reports confirmed that Caprio passed away peacefully one day after posting a touching video from the hospital in which he asked for prayers following a health setback. Caprio was known for his compassionate approach in the courtroom, where he presented a model of justice that considers people's circumstances and listens to their stories before issuing judgments. 

This approach gained widespread global attention through the program "Caught in Providence" and videos on social media. Officials and public figures mourned him, while the Governor of Rhode Island ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of his humanitarian legacy.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia in September 2023, Caprio revealed that the "secret to being close to people" stems from his family upbringing and close-knit family, saying that his parents and relatives instilled in him the values ​​of compassion and understanding for others.

 He explained that many of those appearing before the courts are burdened by harsh family and economic hardships, adding, "I simply put myself in their shoes and hope that their circumstances are taken into consideration." He also spoke about the warm welcome he received in the UAE during his 2023 visit, praising the kindness of the Emirati people and the strength of family ties within the community, saying that he felt like "one of the family."

Brief Biography

Born on November 24, 1936, Caprio served as presiding judge of the Providence Municipal Court from 1985 before retiring after nearly four decades on the bench. He gained global fame between 2018 and 2020 with the broadcast of "Caught in Providence," before his excerpts became a social media phenomenon. He announced his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in 2023, and continued to post messages of thanks and prayers to his followers until his final days.
