Bayern Munich ends Flamengo's adventure and officially qualifies for the Club World Cup quarterfinals
Germany's Bayern Munich qualified for the Club World Cup quarterfinals after defeating Brazil's Flamengo 4-2 in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup held in the United States this evening at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Bavarians opened the scoring through an own goal by Flamengo defender Erick Pulgar in the sixth minute of the first half. Bayern Munich quickly doubled their lead with a second goal by England striker Harry Kane in the ninth minute. Flamengo leveled the score with a goal by Santos in the 33rd minute.
Four minutes before halftime, Bayern Munich scored through Goretzka in the 41st minute. In the second half, Flamengo managed to reduce the deficit once again, scoring a second goal through Italian Jorginho in the 55th minute.
Harry Kane then struck the coup de grace, scoring his second goal and the team's fourth in the 73rd minute. With this result, Bayern Munich defeated Flamengo 4-2, officially advancing to the quarterfinals to face Paris Saint-Germain, who advanced at the expense of Inter Miami 4-0.
Flamengo became the second Brazilian team to be eliminated from the Club World Cup after Botafogo, who lost 1-0 to fellow Brazilian team Palmeiras. The latter qualified to face Chelsea in the quarterfinals. Bayern Munich is scheduled to play Paris Saint-Germain next Saturday, July 5, at 7:00 PM Cairo time, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in the quarterfinals of the competition.
