Trump comments on Gulf of Oman drills between Iran, Russia, and China

Donald Trump: He is not concerned about military drills between Russia, China, and Iran

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is not concerned at all about the planned military drills between Russia, China, and Iran.

The navies of Iran, Russia, and China are conducting military drills off the coast of southeastern Iran to "enhance regional security," Moscow and the Iranian state news agency reported on Sunday. These countries have conducted joint drills in the region in recent years out of a shared desire to counter what they describe as "American hegemony."

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that the "opening ceremony" of the "Maritime Security Belt 2025" drills took place in the port of Chabahar, located in southeastern Iran and overlooking the Sea of Oman. It added that the ceremony took place "on the eve of the start" of the drills, which will last "several days."

The official IRNA news agency reported that the drills would begin on Monday, but the Tasnim news agency reported that they would begin on Tuesday. Tasnim reported that "combat and support vessels of the Chinese and Russian navies, as well as ships of the Iranian army and the Revolutionary Guards Navy" will participate in the maneuvers.

The exercises are taking place "in the northern region of the Indian Ocean and aim to enhance security in the region and expand multilateral cooperation among the participating countries," according to the agency. Meanwhile, Trump said he expects US talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to yield positive results regarding ending the war in Ukraine.
