Iran Completely Abolishes the "Moral Police"

Iran has announced the complete abolition of morality police patrols, as part of amendments to the country's so-called "Hijab Law."

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf confirmed the amendment to the "Chastity and Hijab Law," explaining that the amended law stipulates the complete abolition of "Guidance Patrols," or morality police.

According to local media, Qalibaf stated in a message Tuesday evening that these amendments aim to change the way the hijab issue is handled and achieve public consensus.

In recent years, Iran has witnessed numerous proposals to amend the implementation of the "Hijab Law," a controversial issue in the country. Despite the legal amendment, Iranian authorities continue to emphasize the need to adhere to the hijab.

It is worth noting that the issue of compulsory hijab and the methods of enforcing it were at the heart of the protests that erupted in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of the morality police in Tehran in 2022, which sparked widespread reactions both domestically and internationally.
